PRODUCT AND PACKAGING DESIGN: CONCEPT / IDEATION
BRIEF DEVELOPMENT
You bring the idea. Some clients come to the table with a loose concept, others bring a thoroughly refined direction. The sooner we talk, the sooner we can collaborate.
We're going to ask questions to understand the idea and the direction you provide. We'll seek to understand your budget for the finished item, how many you want to make, how quickly you need them delivered.
Together we'll incorporate your idea, direction, and brand into an understanding that ensures we deliver the right concepts.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Based on your brief, our team of designers will begin exploring the options. Idea's will be discussed, refined and likely laughed at. Out of this process, 2 or 3 paths normally emerge.
These concepts will be shared with you, opinions and feedback will be discussed, and we keep refining until we hit the target.
This process can be as collaborative as you like. Some clients like rough sketches before any renderings, others prefer to see polished ideas. We'll talk through your preference before beginning.
CONCEPT FINALIZING
Once the overall concept has been selected and we're agreed on the general idea, we will work together to flesh out the more specific details.
That might mean exploring how a mechanism could work, or exploring how the concept could work for other products in the family.
WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE?
WE ALL GET SPECIFIC
This is where your concept meets detailed reality. This could be a concept we provided, or it could be a concept you bring to us for engineering.
Our team will seek to understand where and how the product/package will be made. How will it be filled or interacted with by its supply chain, distribution chain and customers?
WE INVOLVE THE MANUFACTURING FACILITY
At this stage, its critical to introduce the manufacturing partners that will be handling this product.
There are often considerations and ideas to discuss that stem from their specific knowledge and experience, and also realities pertaining to the materials and manufacturing equipment.
Typically we utilize our supply chain as we have hundreds of projects of experience under our belts, but we can work with your preferred suppliers too.
We also want to connect with any fillers or processors who will interact with this package to ensure we're building in compatibility for their equipment.
WE CREATE SAMPLES
Visual renderings and CAD are great, but nothing beats a physical sample.
We have a 3D Printer, cutting table, and laser cutter in-house. Our manufacturing facilities have CNC capabilities and beyond. We'll recommend the paths available for your specific product.
MANUFACTURING
WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE?
TOOLING
If your product or package utilizes injection molding, blow molding, casting or another similar process, then tooling will be required. If you're producing paper packaging only, you skip this phase.
This phase typically takes 30-50 days to complete and provide the first samples for review.
WE PROVIDE PRE PRODUCTION SAMPLES FOR SIGN OFF
As soon as tooling is complete, we'll provide you with various versions of samples as we hone in on shape, print etc to achieve an approved sample.
This sample, and/or range boards will become the reference sample for the subsequent mass production.
MASS PRODUCTION
With your concept fully engineered, tooled, sampled and ready, mass production can begin.
This phase typically takes 30-60 days depending on complexity.
QUALITY CONTROL PRIOR TO SHIPPING
Early in our relationship, we'll define the quality standards all parties agree on.
During manufacturing, and prior to shipping, QC inspections pursuant to industry-standard AQL levels will be undertaken.
